covid-19 protocol
Over the past few months, there have been many suggestions, recommendations and guidelines supplied by World Health Organisation, South African Health Department, Tourism South Africa, Airbnb and many other interested parties. After spending hours, contemplating the different options available to us, to ensure not only a high level of cleanliness but a safe and sanitised home for our guests, as well as it being practical to adhere to, we have adopted the following protocol:
- Guests on departure, open up the windows and doors to allow for free airflow and ventilation.
- Later in the afternoon, after a couple of hours of standing vacant and being ventilated, we will access the unit, with full PPE. We open all cupboard doors and drawers and spray a hypochlorous acid product called STERIFECT, http://www.SAFIC.co.za, http://www.hypochlorousacid.com, using a paint spray gun, as an aerosol, throughout the unit. Curtains, bedding, carpets, rugs and soft furnishings are also sprayed. The unit is closed up and allowed to stand another 36 hours before entering the property again to complete the cleaning process. The outside lapa (outside entertainment) area is also sprayed.
- Normal deep cleaning is performed throughout the unit, with special attention being paid to the bathroom and toilet facilities which are steam cleaned.
- Different cleaning cloths are used for each room or area within the room, to prevent cross contamination.
- Crockery, cutlery and kitchen items are checked for visible cleanliness and rewashed if necessary.
- All bedding, including mattress and pillow protectors are removed for laundering. Throws on chairs, lounge suits and beds are removed for laundering and replaced with clean ones for each new set of guests. Laundry and towels are carefully collected by folding the items inwards and not opening it up or shaking it out. It is then sorted outside in the open air and bundled. Each bundle is then washed and hung out to dry, but ensuring no cross contamination from dirty laundry. PPE is changed or sanitised when working with clean laundry.
- All high touch and vulnerable spots and surfaces, are wiped down again with an alcohol based sanitiser, STERIQ http://www.chemtron.co.za once the deep clean has taken place. The television remote is sanitised and sealed in a zip lock bag.
- There is a register too that documents when the last guest left and when cleaning took place, which is displayed in the unit, behind the front door.
- Hand and surface sanitisers are provided in each unit for the guests own use, should they wish to do so.
What happens on guest’s arrival?
- Guests exit their vehicle with their masks on and are greeted by the hostess with her mask on, whilst practicing social distancing.
- The members of the guest party have their temperatures taken and recorded.
- All paperwork for tracking and tracing, as well as indemnity and information forms are left in the units for the guest to complete after check in. The provided pen is sanitised and left with the documentation.
- Guests spray down their luggage and party member with the provided sanitiser.
- The keys to the property are sanitised and left in a clean zip lock bag.
- The paperwork is left in a “mail box” and collected by the hostess once completed.
- All documentation is kept for Tracking and Tracing, should the need arise.
- On departure, the guest opens up the windows and doors to allow for ventilation.
- They replace the keys to the unit in the zip seal bag, and deposit it in the key box, alongside the driveway, thus enabling themselves to leave the property without further interaction with the hostess.
